Oide Technology in Education is committed to producing websites and web resources that can be accessed by all users. The Scoilnet website conforms to the AA standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines produced by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Accessible features on the Scoilnet website

  • Standard layout and navigation structure across the website.
  • Alternative textual descriptions for images.
  • Capacity for users to resize the text using the resize option in their browser.
  • Capacity for users to skip directly to the content area of the page.
  • Headings and paragraphs on pages which aid navigation with alternative browsers.
  • Text for links that make sense when read out of context.
  • Breadcrumb trail to help with navigation within a section of the site.
  • Cascading style sheets (CSS) are used for visual layout and presentation.
  • Relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified 'text size' option in visual browsers.
  • Content that can be still be read even if your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all.
  • Files such as video, audio and documents will open based on what the browser's default viewer is set to be.
  • Some media will play in third party players, such as YouTube.

Standards and web browsers cannot keep up with the latest technologies, and therefore when necessary, workarounds are used.     What you need...

    To register for a Scoilnet Account you will need to have a Teaching Council number and a roll number for your school in Ireland.

    If you already have a Scoilnet Account then you can sign in here.

    The benefits...

    A Scoilnet account will allow you to upload your resources or weblinks to Scoilnet as well as enabling you to share and add resources to a favourites listing. Users who have a Scoilnet Account will also be able to fully access Scoilnet Maps and Census@School from home.
